Description

SR-179: Track 1 introduces the interview.
Tracks 2 - 9 discuss the Derby Peat Processing Plant and the peat business in the Fraser Valley. A co-operative which was established between peat processing companies is mentioned. Bell's service in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II is mentioned. The mechanical process of gathering peat is described.
Track 10 discusses the Bell family. The Jack Bell Vanpool program is also described. Cranberry growing is mentioned.

Bell, Jack

Jack Bell was born in Montreal in 1913. He attended UBC and graduated in 1934. He worked in the peat moss business for many years, and also was one of the first commercial cranberry growers in the Fraser Valley. Jack started the Ride Share program in the Lower Mainland to encourage people to carpool on their commutes.
