The Langley Centennial Museum currently maintains a collection of over 9000 photographs, 2000 archival documents, 9000 objects, 500 works of art, and 300 oral history recordings. This collection, spanning hundreds of years, is a wonderful window on the past and present life of our community.

'Map of Langley 1948' in a green booklet; cover has been stamped in navy ink with 'compliments of Duckworth's Langley Cloverdale'; printed underneath 'Published by T. W. McKenzie / 3344, west 28th Ave. / Vancouver B.C.'; map folds up inside the booklet; inside cover has an advertisement for Rump & Sendall Ltd.

Duckworth's (store)

While there was a Duckworths' Store in Fort Langley for a time, the Duckworths' in Langley Prairie was located in two units in the Lyttleton Building on Fraser Highway before moving to a stand alone building farther east on Fraser Highway in 1938. Duckworth's later had a store in Cloverdale, too, but closed in 1973 because of the competition from national chain stores. Auld-Phillips took over the space and concentrated on the sale of ladies clothing.

Langley (municipality)

Langley is a municipality incorporated in 1873 south of the Fraser River. Langley was named after Thomas Langley, a prominent stockholder in the management of the Hudson's Bay Company. He had inherited his brother's stock in the Company in 1793 and was selected as a member of the committee in 1807. He held this position until his death in 1829.

Langley City

The City of Langley, B.C., covering the Langley Prairie region, was incorporated in 1955.

Langley Prairie

Langley Prairie became Langley City in 1955.

Rump and Sendall Hatchery

Rump and Sendall Ltd. Hatchery opened in Langley in 1922 with the slogan "The Chicks Which Give Results." The Rump & Sendall Hatchery in Langley Prairie was built in 1935 beside the Aikenhead family's house. Before this, they hatched chicks on their farm at Harmsworth. There was another location in Vernon. There were two residences over the location in Langley Prairie - the Sendalls lived at the front, and the Rumps at the rear.
