1 Photograph : b&w ; of the graduating class of 1957 from Langley High School. On the back of the photo, there is a stamp that reads "NOVA STUDIOS / BOX 535 / LANGLEY PRAIRIE, B.C.". Written by hand in blue ink in the bottom left corner of the back is "LHS. / 1957". There are approximately 101 people wearing formal attire in the photograph. The subjects are arranged on the floor and bleachers in a gymnasium. A banner across the top of the group reads "FELICITATIONS et BONNE CHANCE les GRADS". Kathy Monahan is seated in the front row, third from the left. Ben Weaver and Lorraine Tindale (Allen) are in the photo but unidentified.

Langley High School

In 1909 the first high school class was organized and held in rented quarters in Murrayville. From 1911-18, classes were held in Belmont Superior School (later Murrayville Elementary), but the school became overcrowded with elementary and high school students. The school board approached the Municipal Council, but their request for a new schol was turned down twice. The board resigned, but the next board was more successful and local contractor Owen Hughes was hired on a low bid of $11,900. The School Board temporarily found room for the overflow pupils from Murrayville in the downstairs portion of Milner Hall and by renting the Sharon Presbyterian Church Hall. In 1922, Langley High School moved from Murrayville to Milner School, where it remained until Langley High School was built on Yale Road in 1924. Langley High School opened in 1924 with two classrooms and one science room. It taught grades 9 to 12. Additional rooms were built in 1934. In roughly 1947 the new school on the current property (2005) was built, and it included Grades 11 and 12. In 1948, the old building on Fraser Highway became Langley Central Elementary, and the high school students moved to the current location (2006) at Langley SECONDARY School. In 1985 the school went from Grades 8-12.

Weaver, Ben

Benjamin (Ben) Robert Weaver was born on March 21, 1939 in Vancouver, to parents Robert and Grace Weaver. He was the oldest of one brother (John) and four sisters (Patricia, Marion, Jean and Bernice). The family moved to a dairy farm in Langley in 1945, where Ben attended Lochiel Elementary School and then Langley High School, where he was part of the last full graduating Langley class of 1957. Ben enjoyed collecting Bing Crosby music and memorabilia throughout his life, a passion that started at age 12.

Ben married a woman named Joyce and had three sons, Robert, Chris, and Stuart. They later divorced and he was remarried Sue. In 1960, Ben began a 32 year banking career, first with the Bank of Montreal, serving in several branches throughout BC, and later with the Federal Business Development Bank, eventually serving in management in Prince George. Following retirement from banking, Ben was employed in Nanaimo as a Funeral Assistant for many years with First Memorial Funeral Services, eventually taking full retirement in 2016. he passed away on May 18, 2023 at the age of 84 after a difficult struggle with pancreatic cancer.
