salishan Place by the River currently maintains a collection of over 9000 photographs, 2000 archival documents, 9000 objects, 500 works of art, and 300 oral history recordings. This collection, spanning hundreds of years, is a wonderful window on the past and present life of our community.

Armstrong, Norman

Langley City Hall

City Hall was built on the site of the Timms house after it was torn down in 1956. It opened for business on April 13, 1957. The final meeting in the old hall took place on April 12, 1999 It was rebuilt on the same site on Topping Road (204th Street), and a new branch of the Fraser Valley Regional Library was included. The offical opening of the new building was on August 25, 2000.

Mufford, William Arthur

William Arthur Mufford was born in Nanaimo in about 1885 to parents Thomas Prior and Millicent (nee Udy) Mufford. The family originated in Cornwall, England, but moved to Ontario in 1873 for several years before moving to Nanaimo for a year or two, and then settling permanently in the Milner area. Arthur married and had three children, Garnet W., Herbert A., and Aleda Viola Mufford. He died in Milner on June 9, 1933, at the age of 48, and is buried in Fort Langley Cemetery.

Mulligan, Maurice

Maurice Mulligan was raised in Langley, where he later became a lawyer. He was Langley City Council's first local magistrate in 1955.

Severide, Norman

Norm Severide was born on August 14, 1923, in Vancouver, to Gunnar (1881/1882-March 17, 1954) and Frances May Severide, nee Dakin (1885/1886-August 6, 1976). He was raised at the family home in North Langley. In 1942 Severide joined the armed forces and served in the air force as a pilot. He attended the University of British Columbia and completed a law degree. He began practicing in Vancouver with some of his classmates, but they soon opened a branch in Langley, for which Severide became responsible. He was joined at this branch by Maurice Mulligan. Norm married Iris Birchall in 1953 and the couple had two sons. In 1983, Severide was honoured with an appointment as Queens Counsel by the Lieutenant-Governor of B.C. He passed away at the age of 95 in 2018.
