salishan Place by the River currently maintains a collection of over 9000 photographs, 2000 archival documents, 9000 objects, 500 works of art, and 300 oral history recordings. This collection, spanning hundreds of years, is a wonderful window on the past and present life of our community.

Description

MSS 328 is the Nash Family Fonds. The fonds consists of two boxes of archival materials, arranged into 38 folders with some loose documents in the boxes. The folders remain arranged as they were done originally, likely by Kathreen Nash, who compiled the Nash family history. There are approximately 1630 archival materials in the fonds, including photographs, letters, cards, and documents.

Nash House (Fort Langley)

John Nash and family first built an imposing farmhouse at 74 256 Street between 1905-08, but this subject is about the Nash's Fort Langley residence.

Nash built another house in Fort Langley in 1916, at 8985 Nash Street. This modest house is typical of the Craftsman Bungalow style. It has a side gable roof, a front-facing gable dormer, a projecting entry dormer and casement windows. The property of four acres was later subdivided. The street is named after John Nash.

Nash, Alberta Rose

Nash, Alice (1863-1949)

Alice Cole was born October 31, 1863, in England, to parents Charlotte and George Cole. On August 3, 1887, she married John Angas Nash in Deptford, Essex County. They had 8 children: Philip Edward, Geoffrey, Edgar John, Francis Gerard, Bernard (Bill), Charlotte Elizabeth, Kathreen Anna, and Edward Hadah. She died in Fort Langley on September 13, 1949.

Nash, Bernard (Bill)

Bernard (Bill) was born July 6, 1896 in Whatcom (now Bellingham), Washington to parents Alice and John Angas Nash. He married Letty Midred Crocker December 15, 1919. They had 6 children: Mildred Alice, Harvey Bernard, Howard Ronald, Kathreen Amelia (Kathie), Alberta Rose (Bert), and Donald (Don) Angus. He died November 19, 1990, in Burnaby.

Nash, Charlotte Elizabeth (1898-1925)

Charlotte Elizabeth Nash was born October 8, 1899 in Whatcom, Washington to parents John Angas and Alice Nash. She died in May, 1925, in Essondale, B.C.

Nash, Edgar

Edgar John Nash was born May 26, 1892, at Buckhatch Farm, Rattendon Common, Essex, to parents John Angas and Alice Nash. He fought in World War I, and received a Military Medal. He worked as a Park Ranger in British Columbia, and then California. He married Kathleen Collett in 1932. They had no children. Edgar died April 14, 1962, in Sebastopol, California.

Nash, Edward H. (Ted)

Edward Hadah (Ted) Nash was born May 3, 1903 in Lynden, Washington, to parents John Angas and Alice Nash. He married Millicent Alice Borley on Septemeber 14, 1936, and had one son, Ronald William Henry Nash Rigby. Edward later married Winnifred May Farmer. Edward died in Fort Langley on March 5, 1976.

Nash, Francis (1895-1950)

Francis Gerard Nash "Frankie" was born March 14, 1895, at Buckhatch Farm, Rettendon Common, to parents John Angas and Alice Nash. He died March 4, 1950, in Tranquille, B.C.

Nash, Geoffrey (1890-1970)

Geoffrey Nash was born July 6, 1890, at Buckhatch Farm, Rettendon Common, Essex, to parents John Angas and Alice Nash. He died June 21, 1970, in Abbotsford.

Nash, John Angas (1863-1945)

John Angas Nash was born June 26, 1863, in Norfolk, England, to parents Edward and Elizabeth Nash. He married Alice Cole on August 3, 1887, in Deptford, Essex. They had 8 children: Philip Edward, Geoffrey, Edgar John, Francis Gerard (Frankie), Bernard (Bill), Charlotte Elizabeth, Kathreen Anna, and Edward Hadah. The Nash family moved to Canada in about 1900, and lived in a house on Boundary Road (0 Ave) at Coghlan Road (256th Street). In 1908 John built a new house on the property that still stands (2008). John Nash was the secretary of the Aldergrove Fair in its early years. He was involved in poultry and vegetable farming. In 1916 John constructed the family's Fort Langley home on Nash Avenue. In later life, he became involved in politics and served as a councillor and school trustee. John died March 16, 1945, in Fort Langley, and was buried in the Fort Langley Cemetery.
