Description

1 spiral bound report with a card stock cover that has a glossy finish and consists of a colour photograph of a small body of water surrounded by trees and other plant life. Below the image it reads, "TOWNSHIP OF LANGLEY / OUR SHARED HISTORY: HISTORIC CONTEXT / STATEMENT AND THEMATIC FRAMEWORK / BACKGROUND [in bold] / AUGUST 2017." The bottom right corner of the cover has bold text that reads, "DONALD LUXTON / AND ASSOCIATES INC,' with a logo of an ampersand to the right of it.

The report consists of two parts, with the first being the Historic Context of Langley and the second, much larger part being on the Thematic Framework of Langley. Historic Context has chapters titled, "1. The Great River, the Fertile Valley, 2. First Nations, 3. Contact, 4. The Hudson's Bay Company, 5. Outpost of Empire, 6. Growth & Consolidation, 7. The Great Western Boom, 8. Conflict & Turmoil, 9. Postwar Langley, 10. Langley Today."

The second part of the report, Thematic Framework consists of five different themes. They are "Theme 1: Habitation, Theme 2: Economies, Theme 3: Governance, Theme 4: Society, Theme 5: Arts. The report ends with subsections of Acknowledgements and a Bibliography.

Langley (municipality)

Langley is a municipality incorporated in 1873 south of the Fraser River. Langley was named after Thomas Langley, a prominent stockholder in the management of the Hudson's Bay Company. He had inherited his brother's stock in the Company in 1793 and was selected as a member of the committee in 1807. He held this position until his death in 1829.

Township of Langley

The Township of Langley, B.C., comprising Langley, Fort Langley, Murrayville, Langley Prairie, Derby, Milner, Aldergrove, Otter, Salmon River Uplands, and Glen Valley, was incorporated in 1873. The City of Langley, B.C., covering the Langley Prairie region, was incorporated as a separate entity in 1955. Langley was named after Thomas Langley, a prominent stockholder in the management of the Hudson's Bay Company.
