salishan Place by the River currently maintains a collection of over 9000 photographs, 2000 archival documents, 9000 objects, 500 works of art, and 300 oral history recordings. This collection, spanning hundreds of years, is a wonderful window on the past and present life of our community.

Description

Fort Langley School class 1934-35. Teacher is Miss Gilders. Standing beside the teacher is Laverne Sailes, and her sister, Phyllis Sailes, is second row, third from right. Gwen Bowling is in the second row, third from the left, Berly Huddlestone is fourth from the left, and Jean Duff is second from the right. Ross Bowling is third from the left in the top row, Ben Kelly is third from the right, and Denton Cordoni is on the far right. Don Bowling is front row, fourth from the right, George Hadden is second from the right. Beside the teacher: George Goddard; Sarah Ibbotson is second from the left. Kelsey Moore is in the back row, centre.

Bowling, Donald

Donald William Bowling was born to parents Frank and Nellie Bowling on Nov. 20, 1924 at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster. He grew up in Fort Langley, and served during WWII with the Winnipeg Rifles. He became the Fort Langley Postmaster in 1952, and remained in the position for 36 years. He married Kathy Carson, and the couple had four children: Maureen (b.1955), Donna (b. 1956), John, and Sheila. Don passed away October 19, 1994, and was buried in the Fort Langley Cemetery.

Bowling, Frank Ross

Frank Ross Bowling was the son of Frank and Nellie Bowling (nee Ross), born Dec. 17, 1921, at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster. Ross served overseas with the RCAF as a wireless air gunner during WWII. There he met and married (Lois) Barbara Lois Cross on July 1, 1944. They had two children, Malcolm Ian (b. 1948) and Gloria Carol (b. 1955). Ross purchased the 40 acres next to his dad's farm (on 96th Ave.) from the Robinson family. Ross was the president of the Langley Farmers' Institute in 1953. Ross died on November 28, 2000, at Langley Memorial Hospital.

Goddard, George W*

George Goddard was born on January 7, 1893. He enlisted in the military in 1917. He married Lydia Maria Cameron (1896-August 27, 1958) on May 19, 1920. Possibly remarried to a woman named Karen. George died on September 26, 1964.

Hadden, George Crawford (1924-1944)

Son of Jimmy and Kathleen Hadden of Fort Langley. Died during the Second World War.

Moore, Kelsey Joseph

Kelsey Joseph Moore (possibly "Kellsey" or "Kelsie") was born in New Westminster on February 16, 1924, to parents Clara Matilda and James Joseph Moore of Fort Langley. He got his start in the electrical contracting business in approx. 1940, and later ran his own store in Fort Langley, K. Moore & Co. Ltd., that specialized in plumbing and electrical. Kelsey was a member of the Native Sons of B.C., the Langley Lodge, and the Fort Langley Board of Trade. He was married to Helen, and had one son, Bradley. Kelsey died on July 8, 1965, at the age of 41, when the flight he was on, CPA DC6B Flight 21, crashed at 100 Mile House.

Sailes, Laverne

Laverene Sailes was a Fort Langley girl. She was chosen by the Langley Amateur Athletic Association as it's 16th May Queen in 1938.

Seney, Gwen (nee Bowling)

Gwen Bowling was born October 13, 1923 to parents Frank and Nellie Bowling. She was a Harvest Princess in 1943. She married Milton Ainsley (Bob) Brown. The couple had two children, Teresa (Terry) and Robert (Bobby). She later married Roy Seney. Gwen passed away in 2007.
