Aldergrove Post Office
The Aldergrove Post Office opened on October 1, 1885. Mr. Wheyman was the first postmaster, and the post office was located on Fraser Highway (formerly Old Yale Road) and 272 Street (Jackman Road). The second post office was probably in the Jackman house or store. Mr. Philip Jackman Jr. operated it for several years. George McDonald was the longest serving postmaster from 1926 to 1963. In 1926, the post office was in front of George McDonald's house. In 1946, the front of the house was torn down, and a small office and larger postoffice space was built facing on Fraser Highway (Old Yale Rd.). In 1950, George McDonald constructed a new building (45' x 34') on 272 Street (Jackman Rd.) just north of Fraser Highway. The McDonalds lived upstairs in the apartment, and the post office was downstairs.
