The front of the postcard consists of a black and white cartoon drawing showing a mustachioed man with a military peaked cap and a pipe hanging out of his mouth pulling the lid off of a can. The front of the can reads, "PLUM / & / APPLE." The bottom right corner of the cartoon is signed, "Bruce Bairnsfather" in cursive.
The reverse consists of text at the top centre that reads, "POST CARD / The Address only to be here / Printed in England." Above this it reads, "8-," hand written in pencil. Written vertically along the left hand side it reads, "'Bystander's' Fragments from France. Series 2" At the centre of the reverse written vertically it reads, "'Bystander' Copyright."
