Description

A black hardcover book titled "Register of Poisons." The cover has gold text in the centre reading "Register of Poisons / Pharmacy Act As Amended." The back and what remains of the spine are blank. The inside pages are pink at the edges. They contain entries from Plewes Drug Store and Brandow's Drug Store running from Sept. 29, 1939 to Feb. 14, 1957. These entries are a record of customers who purchased poisonous substances from the pharmacy. Each entry contains "date", "name of purchaser", "name and quantity of poison sold", "purpose for which it is required", and "signature of purchaser." Most of the entries also include "address of purchaser" and "signature of seller."

Brandow, Harold

Brandow's Drug Store

Harold Brandow took over Plewes Drugstore in 1945, and renamed it Brandow's Drugstore sometime after. Harold's son, Murray followed in his father's footsteps and worked at the store after studying pharmacy at UBC. The store was closed in 1981.

Plewes Drug Store

Established circa 1920 by Angus Plewes. It was managed by his wife Erla after Angus' sudden death in 1938. The store was later owned by Harold Brandow in 1945 and renamed Brandow's Drugstore. Harold's son, Murray followed in his father's footsteps and worked at the store after studying pharmacy at UBC. The store was closed in 1981.

Plewes, Angus M.

Angus Plewes owned and operated Plewes Drug store in Langley Prairie from 1920 until his death in 1938.
