Description

An off white softcover journal titled "Sound Heritage." The journal is printed on matte paper in sepia toned ink. This issue's brown cover has an image of "Industrial Timber Mills, Nitinat Area, 1946" on the cover, with steam stacks blowing in the mill. The title, "Sound Heritage" is centred across the top, below that is "Volume III Number 2." Below that is the photograph with its caption, and below the photograph is a paragraph length quote by Jack Whittaker. The textual and visual elements of the cover are centred, and are surrounded by a brown rounded rectangle border. In the top right corner "B. A. MacPherson 879-2125" is handwritten in blue ink. The back is blank. The title page shows the editor was W.J. Langlois, and the assistant editor was Derek Reimer. There is an introduction by the Provincial Secretary Honourable Ernest Hall. The journal includes articles about preserving sound history, including oral histories, and is published quarterly by Aural History, Provincial Archives of British Columbia. The table of contents lists the contributors: David Lance, Derek Reimer, Sue Baptie, George Lutz, Jack Vetleson, Derek Reimer, and Barry Broadfoot. Topics include "A Museum Approach to Oral History" and an interview with Jack Whittaker, and quilting. The journal is 37 pages.

MacPherson, Hope

Hope MacPherson started working at the Booth General Store in 1938 and worked there at different jobs on and off until 1948. As a young lady, Hope had arrived in Fern Ridge from Alberta to live with an aunt and uncle, and the Booth's offered her a job as a housekeeper. When she showed an interest in the store, the Booths' transferred her there as a clerk. Hope usually worked in the store, but occasionally clerked in the travelling stores. In 1945 Hope took on the bookkeeping as well, and this got her interested in getting an education in this field. She took office training in 1945-46 and returned to the Booth Store as an official bookkeeper. In 1948 she left the store to pursue her career full-time. Hope retired from her work as a bookkeeper with MacMillan and McKinnen Barristers and Solicitors in Cloverdale in 1980, and moved to Armstrong, B.C.
