Interior of the house of Mrs. George Butcher after lightning struck. Caption from the Langley Advance reads "Fact that Mrs. George Butcher, left, 69, was sleeping on this wooden bed was attributed to saving her life by Brookswood fire cheif Roddie McDonald. Tuesday morning's bolt of lightening thundered through the house at 6:05 am, knocking out this hole in the wall at Mrs. Butcher's head, started a minor fire in the wall, atomized a table lamp, leaving only a piece of the shade, damaged the wall behind the camera, fused the electrical wiring in the house. Neighbour Mrs. J. P. Leghorn, Belmont Road, and her family claimed that a ball of fire rolled down the driveway away from the house after the bolt lit up the countryside".
