Title
Langley in the Sixties: A Policy for Development.
Date
May 1962.
Description
1 Report : 42 pages, stapled printing paper ; 28 x 21.5 cm. This report, conducted by the Lower Mainland Regional Planning Board of B.C., is a report given to the Reeve and Council of the Township of Langley, and suggests policies to implement for development of the Township. The report is a black and white photocopy, and describes multiple suggestions, and includes a table of commercial businesses which should be allowed or prohibited, folded near the back of the report on larger paper. The final page of the report is a colour map of the Township, with areas of the map in red, according to the policies recommended in the report. The title page of the report has a black and white map of the Township centered on the page, with the words "LANGLEY IN THE SIXTIES:/ A POLICY FOR DEVELOPMENT" overlaying the top portion of the map. In the bottom left corner are the numbers "711.4035 LTF," suggesting this is a photocopy of a library or similarly catalogued copy. The bottom left also has the text "LOWER MAINLAND REGIONAL PLANNING BOARD," and the lower right bears the date, "1962." There are three staples along the left edge of the pages, creating a book-like collection of pages.

People/Subject
Township of Langley
The Township of Langley, B.C., comprising Langley, Fort Langley, Murrayville, Langley Prairie, Derby, Milner, Aldergrove, Otter, Salmon River Uplands, and Glen Valley, was incorporated in 1873. The City of Langley, B.C., covering the Langley Prairie region, was incorporated as a separate entity in 1955. Langley was named after Thomas Langley, a prominent stockholder in the management of the Hudson's Bay Company. He had inherited his brother's stock in the Company in 1793 and was selected as a member of the committee in 1807. He held this position until his death in 1829.
