People/Subject
Bowling, Kathleen Elizabeth (nee Carson)
Kathleen Elizabeth Carson was born on May 13, 1930 in Alberta and lived in Warspite until she was 10 years old. She moved to Fort Langley with her family in 1940. She married Don Bowling, the postmaster for 36 years, on June 23, 1952. They had four children: Maureen, Donna (b. May 28, 1956), John, and Sheila. Kathy passed away on May 14, 2006.
Edal Cafe
Alfred and Edna Trattle opened the Edal Café in the 1930’s. It is located at 9143 Glover Road, on the corner of Glover and 96th. Photos show it as a gathering place with a neighboring barber shop and Shell gasoline pump. The café changed hands over the years, including to Mrs. Ann Brown; Mr. and Mrs. Williard Brown in February 1949; Pat and Ray Johnson and finally to John and Bertha Garanko in September 1967. John and Bertha enlarged the seating area, added a grocery section and changed the name to Bertha’s. Bertha’s maintained the same feel as Edal Café and became popular for its early morning breakfast and exchanges of the events of the day.
Ushaw, Shirley (Halliday)
Shirley Ushaw was the youngest child of Margaret Mildred and Thomas Ushaw. Her sister Marjorie Waska ran Waska's Store in Fort Langley. She married Herb Halliday.
