Ada Hill, her husband Robert and their children moved to the Otter area in the 1890s. He worked in various mills in the area, including the Otter Shingle Mill. In 1898, when David Poppy went to Atlin, the Hill family lived in the original Poppy log cabin and looked after the Poppy property and the post office. They also began building their own house on the northeast corner of Robertson Crescent and Otter Road, which they moved into when Poppy returned. The Hills had six children: Ada, Gladys, Myrtle, Joe, George and Edward.

Robert Hill was born in Bruce County, Ontario, in about 1862. Robert, his wife Ada and their children moved to the Otter area in the 1890s. He worked in various mills in the area, including the Otter Shingle Mill. In 1898, when David Poppy went to Atlin, the Hill family lived in the original Poppy log cabin and looked after the Poppy property and the post office. They also began building their own house on the northeast corner of Robertson Crescent and Otter Road, which they moved into when Poppy returned. The Hills had six children: Ada, Gladys, Myrtle, Joe, George and Edward. Robert Hill died after a one week illness at the age of 92 on August 28, 1954.
