Ripley, George
George Ripley Sr. was born in County Armagh, Ireland and sailed to Canada from the Port of Down in the spring of 1912 on the Anchor liner Columbia on his way around the world. He ran out of money for his trip in Langley, so he started to work laying ties for the Canadian Northern Railroad. He bought a small property in Fort Langley and met Jennie D. Forrester, a teacher in Tyne Head (& previously Quadra Island). The couple was married in 1919 and they lived on a small property in Fort Langley. In 1920 the couple went to Ireland where George took over management of the family estate. In 1926 Jennie and George Ripley returned to Canada with children Thomas Andrew Forrester Ripley b. 13 Aug. 1921, Helen Christina Ripley b. 15 Jan. 1923, Mary Eleanor Ripley, b. 26 Jun. 1924, and George Colin Ripley, b. 9 Mar. 1926. Jean Anne Ripley was born in New Westminster on 18 February 1929. George Sr. died in 1929 at the age of 36 and was buried in the Fraser Cemetery, New Westminster.
