Description

Consists of three photographs brought to the Museum by Warren Sommer on behalf of Norma Jamieson. One is a portrait of Murdock McIver, the other of wife Annie McIver. These are the donor's grandparents, and the images were used in Don Waite's book "Langley Story Illustrated." Both images have been added to the Photo Collection, #4808 and 4809. The third photo is a framed image of the donor's father, Lieutenant J. McIver, in WWI uniform. The photo is on a piece of decorated paper that gives his enlistment date in North Vancouver, and is surrounded by a crown and flags. It was accessioned as a framed item at 2005.46.1, but the oval image of McIver in the centre has been scanned and added to the Photo Collection as #4810.

Spence family

Peter Spence (1849-1939, born in the Orkney Islands) arrived in Vancouver, B.C., in 1883 and later purchased 160 acres in the Coghlan, B.C., area, at which point his wife Jane joined him from Scotland. He built the Coghlan General Store and many of the early houses. They had three sons, William, James, and Peter, all of whom worked on the farm.
