Thomas Appleby Ushaw was born in Yorkshire, England, on May 28, 1892. He came to Canada and served with the Royal Canadian Field Artillery overseas in World War I. In 1919 he moved to Fort Langley. During World War II he was in the RCAF. He was a sectionman with the Canadian National Railway until his retirement. He married Mildred Margaret English on April 19, 1924. They had three children: Leonard, Marjorie May Waska, and Shirley. Thomas was a life time member of the Fort Langley Community Association, and was the custodian of the Community Hall for a period. He was very active in the Canadian Legion, Langley Branch No. 21. He died on August 6, 1959, at the Shaughnessy Military Hospital, and was buried August 11, 1959 in the Fort Langley Cemetery.
