People/Subject
Bank of Hamilton
The Bank of Hamilton in Milner opened in 1910 and merged with its rival, The Canadian Bank of Commerce in 1924. It was managed from 1910-1912 by W. Charles and in 1913 by Fred M. Jones. At that time, it was the only Chartered Bank in Langley Prairie. It was available to residents in Fort Langley, Murrayville, Langley Prairie and Sperling and only solicited patronage from persons doing business in those districts.
The building that the Bank of Hamilton operated in was built in 1908 or 1909 and remains today as a private residence on Townline Rd. It was converted to a private residence in 1913 and was originally owned by Mrs. Janet Graham.
