People/Subject
Pratt, Henry Harvey
Henry Harvey Pratt was born on 25 October 1887 in Liverpool, England, to William Edwin Pratt, a Pharmacist (later in Fort Langley), and his wife. He was the youngest of four siblings. The family moved from Manchester to the Lumby/Vernon area, and then moved to Fort Langley (then referred to as "Langley Fort") sometime before the outbreak of the First World War. Henry Pratt's Attestation papers note that he enlisted on June 17, 1915, that he was a mechanic, and had previously served 5 months in the 30th B.C. Horse Regiment. He served overseas but was injured in late 1916, and spent time convalescing in England. In 1918 he married Ann Harcourt; they had a lot in Vancouver but never built on it, and then moved to Fort Langley for a few years before moving back to Vancouver in 1935. They had six children: Harry (Sonny), Barbara, Laura, Kenneth, Viola, and Beverly. Son Harry died in the Second World War. Henry died on 7 September 1958 and was buried in the Returned Soldiers section of the Mountain View Cemetery.
