Aigi attended Murrayville School, and later Otter School from grades 5-8. In December 1941, Aigi (Grade 10) and his older brother Kyoto (Grade 12) were attending Langley High School when there was an announcement that all Japanese Canadians would be evacuated from the West Coast. The family, then consisting of mom and dad and ten children, including Sumi, who was born the day before the attack on Pearl Harbour, were picked up in May 1942, taken to a train, and moved to a place called Raymond, Alberta to labour on a sugar beet farm. Aigi was 17 years old.
