Jennie May Estey was born on July 10, 1892, in Keswick Ridge, New Brunswick. She moved to Langley in 1912, after teaching for two years. She taught in Langley until 1916, when she moved to Saskatoon and taught there until 1920. She returned to Langley and married George Herbert Medd on January 19, 1920. They had a daughter Muriel in 1921, a son Byron in 1934, and adopted Margaret, also born in 1934. Jennie quit teaching at this time, but resumed in 1944 due to a shortage of teachers during the war.
