Wax cylinder (a) inside cardboard container lined with fabric (b). The wax cylinder is Dictaphone brand. The container is black cardboard with the word "Dictaphone" running vertically along the tube, with "Nuphonic" along the bottom. Below the vertical Dictaphone, in small lettering is "REG. U.S. PAT. OFF." The Dictaphone logo, a circle with large white band and two white dots above and below the band, is above the vertical writing. The cylinder is black-brown wax, about 0.8 cm. thick with hollow centre. One one end of the cylinder, text is imprinted which reads "DICTAPHONE PAT. OFF. [arrow facing inward] 27 U.S.A - STATIC." Part of the cylinder has broken away, leaving a triangular hole widest at the end with writing and narrowing to a crack which runs the length of the cylinder.
