In 1929 the Simpson brothers moved to Fort Langley from Aldergrove and began running the Simpson Bros. Store in the Fort Grocery building. John and James Simpson were running the building at 9179 Glover Road as "Simpson Bros. Store." John was married to a woman named Lillian, nee Baker, and they lived above the store. In 1951 the Simpson Bros. store was lost to the bank and went on sale.

John Ritchie Simpson was born February 16, 1915, to parents Alice (nee Ritchie) and James Simpson. John and his family lived in Aldergrove before moving to Fort Langley in 1929 and running the Simpson Bros. Store with his brother, Jim. He married Lillian Baker in Milner on June 10, 1944, and had two daughters, Muriel Margaret and Elizabeth Maureen. John and Lillian moved to Surrey in 1956. John died October 25, 1989.
