People/Subject
McDonald, Mary Jane (nee Hurtt)
Mary Jane Hurtt was born in Ontario in about 1857 to parents Mary (nee Hamilton) and Samuel Hurtt. She married Malcolm Loch McDonald, who had been born in Quebec in about 1853, in North Dakota. The family lived for a time in Hoople, ND. They had three children: Lawrence Linwood (1890-1956), George (1895-1973) and Lida (1889-1985). The family left North Dakota and farmed at Birdseye Creek, Oregon until 1911. They then moved to Vancouver for 9 years. Lawrence and his brother George had both served in the armed forces in WWI and used their Soldier's Settlement Grants to buy land for a farm on County Line Road in Aldergrove in 1920. When Malcolm McDonald died in 1929, widowed Mary moved to New Westminster. She died there in 1939.
