Description
A quilt. One side is a floral pattern with a brown background, and the other side is a striped pattern; made by Ellen Ritchie with wool likely grown on the Ritchie Farm on Telegraph Trail.

Berquist (nee Ritchie), Mabel
Mabel Christine Berquist (nee Ritchie) was born in Whonnock, on April 21st 1895. Her parents were Ellen and Alexander Ritchie, who soon moved to the Langley area where they ran a farm and a sawmill. She married Oscar Berquist. She had two daughters, Thelma, and Anita, and two sons, John (Bud) and Milton. Mabel worked as a nurse for the Langley district, and at the Milner Store. She passed away on April 16th 1982.
Ritchie, Ellen
Ellen Christine Richtie was born in Norway. She married Alexander Rathborne and in 1895 they moved to a farm in the Langley area. Their first farm was called the "Lone Pine." Their second farm was on Telegraph Trail. The family had a saw mill, cut railway ties and raised sheep. She had 2 sons, William and Albert, and 3 daughters, Mabel, Mary, and Gertrude. Her daughter Mabel married into the Berquist family. Ellen was proud of her heritage, making her children and grand children say their prayers in English and Norwegian. She passed away at December 24th 1967 at 96.
