Description
Aldergrove Presbyterian (later United) Church, 2940 272nd Street.
People/Subject
Aldergrove United (Presbyterian) Church
The first church service in Aldergrove was held in 1885 in the home of Mr. And Mrs. Robert Shortreed, with Rev. Alexander Dunn conducting the service. By 1890, the congregation had grown to some 40 people and services were held in the new one-room schoolhouse between Jackman and Countyline Roads. A permanent church was built in 1911, and on June 19, 1953, 28 years after the formation of the United Church of Canada, similar services were held to dedicate the newly constructed memorial hall. As the congregation became to large, a new church was built on another property and used as of April 1983. After this, the old church was used by the Calvary Baptist Church of Aldergrove. The address of this (the old church) building is 2940 272 Street.
