Photograph : b&w; of signs for Fort Langley/ 232nd Street from what was likely the new Trans-Canada Highway, from the inside of a car, a 1963 Valiant; glove box and dash can be seen below the windshield, and a little bit of the rear view mirror can be seen at the top left of the photograph; out the windshield to the left of centre is a sign that read " Fort Langley / 232nd St / Livingstone Rd. / EXIT 1 MILE"m in white on a dark coloured sign; below it is a sign with dark font on white that reads "Fort Langley / Historic Site".

Livingstone Road

James and Catherine Livingstone arrived in 1877 with their 11 children, most of whom were adults by this point. The family took up 5 quarter sections of land along what is now 232nd St. Other family members who owned land along this road were Francis (Frank) Joseph Livingstone, William Livingstone, Robert Livingstone, and John Livingstone. Mrs. Eustatia Livingstone, Frank's wife, was well known in the area as someone to go to for help, as she had served as a nurse in the Boer War. She ran their house (3425 232nd Street) as a sort of hospital before World War I, and perhaps even during WWI and after, as Langley had no hospital or maternity ward at this time.
