Title
Students posing for a photo on the front steps of Sperling School.
Date
[between 1927 and 1930].
Description
Students posing for a photo on the front steps of Sperling School. Appears to be a mix of ages, and it might be a photo that Roy Mountain actually took. Looks to be taken on the same day as photo #4625.
People/Subject
Sperling School
The area, originally called Harmsworth, was named after R. H. Sperling. Sperling was the general manager of the BC Electric Railway from 1905-1914. The BCER had a station where the interurban line crosses 240th (Brown Road). The school, located at 74th Avenue and 240th Street, opened in the school year of 1923-4. The first modernization of the school came in 1934. More changes came in 1954, 1955 and 1957. The school closed in the early 1980’s.
