Aldergrove Telephone Museum
The Alder Grove Heritage Society & Telephone Museum is located at 3190 271st Street in Aldergrove, BC in the old F.J Hart building that was built in 1910. In 1914, the building was sold to the BC Telephone Company, which operated the local exchange from 1914-1952.
The historic and now designated heritage structure was moved to its present location in 1992 and to the Alder Grove Heritage Society, which is completely run by volunteers with their goal being to preserve local heritage, was founded. The Alder Grove Heritage Society restored the building and the original switchboard with three lines working to show what it was like to sit at a switchboard. The museum features and displays telephones throughout the years and is home to many Aldergrove community archives. The Vancouver Sun wrote an article in 2010 praising the Museum as being “the smallest museum in the province but surprisingly the largest in terms of cultural impact with the one machine we all use – the telephone.”
Over the years there have also been many events to draw people into the museum, with books about Langley by local authors offered for sale, and photography contests, one called “Aldergrove Memories”, where the photographs submitted were added to the community archives.
