Spence family
Peter Spence (1849-1939, born in the Orkney Islands) arrived in Vancouver, B.C., in 1883 and later purchased 160 acres in the Coghlan, B.C., area, at which point his wife Jane joined him from Scotland. He built the Coghlan General Store and many of the early houses. They had three sons, William, James, and Peter, all of whom worked on the farm.
