Brown, Lavinia
Lavinia Evelyn Medd was born in Langley on July 11, 1899, the youngest daughter of Annie (nee Holding) and William Medd. In her early 20s she studied the piano and music theory under Professor John James Ainsley, whom she would marry in 1922 and with whom she would have a daughter named Irene. John passed away in 1926 and to make ends meet Lavinia taught piano and worked as a hairdresser. For many years she offered room and board to men training at the Langley Municipal Airport. In 1933 she married Langley barber Sam Brown, with whom she had Dick, David and Bob. Lavinia was a rose gardener and kept finches in an aviary. Lavinia died in 1988.
