Jervis, James George
James George Jervis was born in Vancouver on June 6, 1890 to John and Mary Jervis (nee Hancock). He went to school in Montana but graduated from the Ontario Veterinarian College in 1912. Following graduation Dr. Jervis went to work with the CPR. In 1920 he settled on Medd Road and began to establish a private practice as Langley's first veterinarian. He was married and had two daughters. He was a charter member of the Fraser Valley Council of the Knights of Columbus, and was an early president of the Langley Board of Trade. He was a member of the Langley Lions, active at one time in the Langley Agricultural Association, a member of the Academy of Science at UBC, and a lecturer there of special courses in animal husbandry. He retired from private practice in 1944 and joined the Health of Animals Branch of the federal Dept. of Agriculture as an inspector, which he did for 9 years until his death. He travelled extensively through BC and the Yukon with this position. He died at St. Paul's Hospital, Vancouver, in March 1953.
