Alfred and Edna Trattle opened the Edal Café in the 1930’s. It is located at 9143 Glover Road, on the corner of Glover and 96th. Photos show it as a gathering place with a neighboring barber shop and Shell gasoline pump. The café changed hands over the years, including to Mrs. Ann Brown; Mr. and Mrs. Williard Brown in February 1949; Pat and Ray Johnson and finally to John and Bertha Garanko in September 1967. John and Bertha enlarged the seating area, added a grocery section and changed the name to Bertha’s. Bertha’s maintained the same feel as Edal Café and became popular for its early morning breakfast and exchanges of the events of the day.
