Schatz, Simon
Simon Schatz was born in Wallace, Ontario, on July 5, 1883. He married Alice Hutchings, and they had five children: Edna May (1909), Frederick Allan (1911), Catherine Pearl (1912), James Howard (1924), and Vera Madeline (1926). The family moved to Langley in the summer of 1931. They purchased a farm on Lee Road (74th Ave.) just west of 208th Street in Willoughby, and had 5 acres in the northeast corner of Lee and James Rd., and 5 acres on the southeast corner. Simon built a house here in 1932, and they also built a barn, garage and chicken house, and planted an orchard. Simon and Alice were involved in the Willoughby United Church, where Simon was the treasurer, and were both members of the Crib Club. Simon died on August 21, 1962 at the age of 78.
