Description

The Albion Ferry wharf in poor repair before replacement. Caption reads "SCHEDULED TO BE REPLACED in the next few weeks is this ferry wharf and fishman's slip on the north side of McMillan Island at Fort Langley. A new ferry slip to accomodate the ferry from Agassiz will be built behind this one and extending further out into the river. This wharf was built 30 years ago and a ferry was planned at that time. White point showing beneath the ramp is Albion, the north terminal of the promised ferry service'".

Albion Ferry (boat)

The ferry crossing between Fort Langley and Albion (Maple Ridge) was opened to the public in June 1957. Local sometimes MPs Alex Hope and J.J. McLellan fought for the ferry, and although originally a bridge was hoped for, it is believed that the bridge was built out towards Harridon instead because of political powers at the time. Members of the local Board of Trade, including Don and Charlie Reid and Roy Seney, also fought for the ferry.
