The fonds consists of a brief typewritten history of the ship Beaver (1835-1888), which served as a brig, a hydrographic survey vessel, a freighter, and a log-tow boat in B.C., and of George Marchant (1844-1925), who was the Beaver's last Captain.

The Beaver", a paddle wheeler, operated on the Fraser from 1837 onward, connecting Pacific coast forts with Fort Langley. It was the first steam powered vessel on the Pacific Coast of North America.
