Nuu-chah-nulth First Nation
The Nuu-chah-nulth First Nation, historically known as the Nootka First Nation, are Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast in Canada. Captain James Cook interpreted their name to be Nootka, which was incorrect; in 1978, the Nuu-chah-nulth chose the collective name "Nuu-chah-nulth" (nuučaan̓uł) to describe the First Nations of Western Vancouver Island.
