Nelson, Johnston Kavlbeck (1831-1907)
Johnston K. Nelson was born in 1831 in Colchester County, Nova Scotia. He went to Ontario with his brother William Nelson in the mid-1850s. He married Margaret Armstrong there, and his brother William married her sister, Jane Ann Armstrong. Johnston was a millwright and started the Nelson Sawmill in Sydenham Township in Grey County, south of Owen Sound, Ontario. Johnston and Margaret had 5 children before moving west in roughly the late 1870s. He bought 161 acres of property in Langley and was the second pioneer of Murray's Corners. They had 8 children: Ellen Monahan (nee Nelson), Margaret Mutrie (nee Nelson), Annie, Lottie, Matthew, James H., William and David. Johnston K. Nelson died January 10, 1907 in Langley Prairie and is buried in the Murrayville Cemetery.
