B&W photo /post card of Old Fort Langley; central is a wooden farm building surrounded by split-rail fences and smaller wooden buildings, with forest and mountains in the distance; along the top printed in red reads 'Old Fort, Langley B.C. / This was established about the year 1825, being the first of a chain of forts / founded by the Hudson's Bay Co. Alang and near the coast of B.C.'; back side of photo has 'Private Post Card' in red; a letter has been hand written in cursive with blue ink, and is addressed to 'Miss Ethel Olive'; there are two yellow post stamps in the top right corner; letter is dated 30/8/23.

Hudson's Bay Company

The Hudson's Bay Company was formed in 1670. For much of its history it was focused on trading with the many Indigenous peoples of North America for furs. The company was central to the colonization of Canada and early European / Indigenous relationships. The Hudson's Bay network ran across Canada and it held claim over large portions of the land, often acting as the local non-Indigenous authority. The company lives on today as "The Bay" a department store.
