Hogben, Sidney Thomas
Sidney Thomas Hogben was born to Ada Hogben in England on January 29 (?), 1900. He was one of six children. His father died at some point in his childhood. He came to BC with his family in 1905. Sid served in the First World War, enlisting when he was under aged, lying and claiming he was 18. He went on to become a pilot officer. He married Mabel Florence M. Berry in Milner on February 18, 1934, and had no children. They ran a dairy farm together. He was a municipal councillor from 1949 until 1960. Sid died on April 23, 1974.
Hogben/Matthews, Mabel F. (nee Berry)
Mabel was born to James (Jim) and Melinda Berry (nee Smith born Baglow) in 1909. It was a second marriage for her parents and she had half siblings. Her family moved to Milner in 1920 and then in 1933 to the Willoughby area. Her siblings included May Brown, Harry Barry who ran the general store, and Owen Berry. She married Sydney T Hogben in 1934. Together they ran a farm on Shannon Rd in West Langley. Sid passed away in 1974 and she remarried Morris Matthews and moved to Maple Manor in Langley City. Through him she had three stepchildren. She was a member of the Langley Post of the Native Daughters of BC. She passed away in 1980 at the age of 71.
