People/Subject
Edge, William Fredrick, (1831 - 1880)
William Frederick Edge was born in Ireland in 1831. His family moved to Grey County, Ontario, where they farmed in the Township of Bentinck north of the village of Durham. He married Harriet Mighton (1833-1927). Together they would have Samuel Ephraim, Mary Ann, Joseph, William Hamilton, George Frederick, Pauline, Mary Harriet, Benjamin John and Joseph Mighton. In 1874 they came to BC and in Derby (now Fort Langley) he purchased a river front farm from Alfred Freeman. His brother Samuel would also come west and settle across the river in Maple Ridge. William died in 1880 in the Haney Slide, when 27 acres of land from the Howieson Farm slid into the river, causing a tidal wave which swept across William's land, and struck William.
