People/Subject
Forbes, William and Mabel
William Forbes was born on March 16, 1884 in River John, Pictou County, Nova Scotia to parents John and Annie (nee Morrison) Forbes. He later became a farmer in Langley Prairie, BC. He married Mabel Hepzibah Young (nee Nicholson), a widow, on March 29, 1932, at the age of 48. Mabel was also aged 48. She had been born March 28, 1884 in Tuckersmith, County of Huron, Ontario to parents John and Annie (nee Wright) Nicholson. She had at least two children with Mr. Young, and moved to BC in 1929. She was living in Langley Prairie and working as a housekeeper before her marriage to William Forbes. They were married in Vancouver at the Wesley United Church on Burrard Street. The couple lived in a house on 42nd Avenue just east of 208th Street (Berry Road). It is unclear if they moved there after their wedding, or if William already lived and was farming at that residence.
The couple moved to Highland Lodge in Langley City, at 20619 Eastleigh Crescent, sometime in their later years. William passed away in Langley Memorial Hospital on September 17, 1972 at 88 years of age. Mabel passed away at Langley Memorial Hospital on January 8, 1973 at the age of 89.
