Description

Landscape oriented black and white photograph postcard depicting the group photo of delegates at the annual convention of the Union of British Columbia Municipalities held in Kamloops. The delegates are arranged in five rows (9 men in the top row, 9 men in the fourth row, 13 men in the 3rd row, 11 men and 1 women in the 2nd row, and 10 men sitting on the ground in the 1st row) in front of a large wooden building with a large window in 3 sections centered behind the group. The foreground is grass, in this foreground on the right there is a white handwritten inscription reading, "Delegate Annual Convention / BC Municipalities / Kamloops BC Oct 22-23 1914". It appears that there may have been a second white inscription on the left but it is very blurry if it was an inscription, completely illegible.

Robert J. Wark is on the far left of the picture. Two copies of the image; both are post cards.

Wark, Robert James, 1874-1936

Robert James Wark was born in 1874, and lived in Londonderry, Ireland, before coming to Langley Prairie at the age of 16. Robert married Edith Kirkby, and the couple had two daughters, Mary and Dorothy. Robert was a Municipal District Clerk from 1901-1902, and the Reeve of Langley Township 1914-1918. He was known for owning the first car in the district. Robert died January 31, 1936, at the age of 61.
